President William Ruto, with Commissioner General Prisons Patrick Aranduh, lays the foundation stone for the Medium Prison Phase Two Affordable Housing Project in Saboti/PCS

President William Ruto intensified his development drive in Trans Nzoia Friday, launching and inspecting projects in housing, trade, education and healthcare as he entered the fifth day of his North Rift tour.

‎In Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, the President laid the foundation stone for the Sh4.05 billion Kitale Medium Prison Phase Two Affordable Housing Project in Saboti Constituency, which is expected to deliver 2,181 housing units.

‎The development will comprise 530 social housing units, 1,111 affordable housing units and 540 market housing units, expanding the government's housing programme in the region.

‎Ruto also handed over the Masinde Muliro Business Park in Kitale, a multi-storey complex designed to provide traders with a modern and organised trading environment.

‎The facility has 2,980 trading spaces and cold storage facilities intended to support businesses and improve the handling of goods.

The government expects the complex to provide traders with a more dignified working environment while strengthening Kitale's position as a commercial centre serving Trans Nzoia and neighbouring counties.

‎The President also laid the foundation stone for the Sh414 million Kitale National Polytechnic Student Village, another project being implemented under the Affordable Housing Programme.

‎The student accommodation facility will house 1,160 learners and include study rooms, shops, food stalls, mini-marts and laundrettes.

The project is expected to ease accommodation pressures for students while providing an environment conducive to learning.

‎During his engagements in Kitale, Ruto met residents and reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving urban infrastructure and transforming the town into a thriving economic hub.

‎He also handed over a Sh59 million tuition block at the Kitale Kenya Medical Training College, comprising 14 classrooms, a library and an information and communications technology laboratory.

‎In addition, the President committed Sh200 million towards the construction of student hostels at the institution.

‎The investment is expected to expand accommodation facilities for trainees as the government seeks to strengthen the training of healthcare professionals to support the delivery of universal health coverage.

‎The President also launched the construction of the County Commissioner's Office-Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital road in Kitale.

‎The road project is intended to improve access to healthcare services and ease movement within the town, particularly for residents travelling to the referral hospital.

‎The series of activities reflects the government's emphasis on infrastructure and social investment as Ruto continues his tour of the North Rift region.

‎The tour, which began on October 10, has involved the launch, inspection and commissioning of development projects across several counties, with the President expected to conclude the regional engagements during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret on October 20.

‎The administration has maintained that its development agenda is focused on expanding housing, improving education and healthcare infrastructure, supporting small businesses and creating opportunities for local communities.

‎In Trans Nzoia, Friday's projects brought together several elements of that agenda, from housing and student accommodation to market facilities and improved road access.President William Ruto with a worker when he laid the foundation stone for the Medium Prison Phase Two Affordable Housing Project in Saboti/PCSMasinde Muliro Business Park in Kitale/PCSPresident William Ruto opens the Masinde Muliro Business Park in Kitale/PCSPrime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi with President William Ruto and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga inspects the new Masinde Muliro Business Park in Kitale/PCSPresident William acknowledges greetings from residents in Kitale town/PCS
