The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have partnered in a weeklong peer-to-peer engagement aimed at strengthening legal enforcement, litigation management and consumer protection.

The exercise brings together legal, enforcement and consumer protection officials from the two institutions

Speaking during the engagement, the EPRA Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, CS Ibrahim Kitoo, said.

“The engagement reinforces the value of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening legal practice, improving regulatory enforcement and promoting compliance while creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth.”

The exercise is meant to strengthen approaches to law enforcement while supporting enterprise and facilitating growth without compromising compliance.

Kitoo challenged participants to assess whether their legal strategies align with institutional objectives, their structures support efficiency, and their systems facilitate effective case and knowledge management.

Participants were encouraged to strengthen emerging skills in areas such as energy transition, digital taxation, alternative dispute resolution and environmental, social and governance matters.

The engagement is expected to strengthen cooperation between the two regulators as they seek to improve legal practice, enforcement and compliance.

EPRA said collaboration between public institutions was crucial in creating an enabling environment for businesses while ensuring that regulatory requirements were observed.

The exercise also provides an opportunity for officials to share practical approaches to handling legal disputes and improving institutional performance.
