Suspected illicit alcohol and narcotics seized by NACADA in Ruiru/NACADA
The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized suspected illicit alcohol and narcotic substances during a multi-agency operation in Gwa Kairu, Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The operation targeted a liquor store and a nearby shop suspected of involvement in the illegal trade. It also resulted in the arrest of three suspects linked to the premises.
At the liquor store, officers recovered 216 pieces of 250ml alcoholic drinks suspected to be illicit. The seizure was recorded at approximately 1.06 pm.
A separate raid on a nearby shop led to the recovery of 96 small rolls of dry plant material, six small brown sachets and three medium sachets containing dry plant matter suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Officers also seized 31 brown rolling papers, eight whitish rolling papers and Sh25,840 in cash suspected to be proceeds of the illegal trade. Ledgers and a lease agreement were also confiscated as evidence.
Three suspects were arrested during the crackdown. They included a shop attendant apprehended at the premises where the suspected narcotics were recovered and a suspect identified as the owner of the liquor store where the suspected illicit alcohol was seized.
NACADA chief executive Anthony Omerikwa commended the collaboration between the authority, the National Police Service and the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.
He said involving the Anti-Counterfeit Authority was important in addressing the threat posed by suspected counterfeit alcohol.
Omerikwa reaffirmed NACADA’s commitment to working with other agencies to combat the illegal sale of alcohol and drugs.
The operation forms part of efforts to address the trade in suspected illicit alcohol and narcotic substances. The seized items and documents are expected to support investigations into the activities uncovered during the raids.
The arrests and seizures underscore the focus of the joint operation on suspected illegal alcohol distribution and drug-related activities in the area.
