American RnB musician Ne-YoIf Boyfriend’s Day passed without you doing anything special for your man, do not panic just yet because you still have Mashujaa Day.
If your boyfriend happens to be an RnB fan, you already have a pretty solid make up plan.
Ne-Yo is heading to Nairobi on October 20 for One Night Only: Brunch Edition, giving couples an excuse to swap the usual dinner and movie date for live music, brunch and a little nostalgia.
The event will take place at Ulinzi Sports Complex from 3pm to 11pm, making it less of a late night concert and more of an entire day outing.
For couples who have spent years sending each other songs, this one comes with a ready-made soundtrack.
Ne-Yo's catalogue stretches across generations, from So Sick and Because of You to Miss Independent and Closer.
If your boyfriend has ever dramatically sung along to So Sick after a breakup; either real or imagined, this might be his kind of date.
Consequently, you do not necessarily have to be the biggest RnB fan in the relationship.
The beauty of a live show is that you can let him have his main character moment when the familiar songs come on, while you enjoy the atmosphere, food and live performances.
The concert will also feature UK showband Sol & The Gang, adding another live act to the lineup.
The group is known for energetic covers of popular songs and has performed at weddings, private events and other major occasions.
For couples, the daytime format also means you can actually make a day of it.
Arrive in the afternoon, grab something to eat, catch the performances and stay through to the evening without having to plan around a midnight finish.
Furthermore, since it is Mashujaa Day, you do not have to worry about waking up early for work the following morning.
The ticket options also make it possible to choose the kind of experience you want.
Tickets are currently listed on https://cms.ticketyetu.com/r/Zft, with Gold tickets currently going for Sh15,000, while the Gold Couple/Friends package costs Sh20,000 for two people.
For a more premium experience, individual Platinum tickets cost Sh40,000, while four-seater and eight-seater Platinum tables go for Sh160,000 and Sh320,000 respectively.
Of course, a concert is not a substitute for actually remembering important dates.
However, if Boyfriend's Day slipped past while you were busy, a good date could at least help you recover some points.
Additionally, Ne-Yo is not exactly a bad soundtrack for an apology.
Ladies, if you missed Boyfriend's Day, consider this your reminder.
Get your man dressed, pick a song you both love and turn Mashujaa Day into a date.
Just make sure he does not spend the entire concert singing So Sick louder than Ne-Yo.
