Tourism CS Rebecca Miano speaks during the 16th edition of the Magical Kenya travel expo

The Ministry of Tourism is working with the Ministry of Health to enhance safety measures following the confirmation of the country’s first Ebola case.

Speaking on Wednesday in Nairobi during the 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo, Tourism CS Rebecca Miano assured tourists that the government remains vigilant and will take all necessary measures to ensure Kenya remains a safe tourism destination.

“The ministry is well aware of the reported Ebola case, and we have reason to consider it an isolated case. We are working together with the Ministry of Health to activate additional precautions to ensure that Kenya remains a safe destination for visitors," she said.

Miano said the ministry has since established a fully-fledged resilience and crisis management centre for tourism at Kenyatta University.

She added that no efforts will be spared to ensure that Kenya continues to be a safe destination for tourists.

Her sentiments come as the country remains on high alert, with relevant players continuing to activate necessary preparedness measures to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Earlier on Wednesday, Health CS Aden Duale, accompanied by Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth and Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano, toured Nairobi Hospital’s Ebola preparedness facility as Kenya steps up measures to respond to potential cases of the virus.

The facility includes a designated bed for Ebola patients and a dedicated patient care area designed to support infection prevention and control measures.

Ten people are currently in quarantine as health authorities intensify efforts to prevent further transmission.

Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said 57 contacts have been traced following the confirmed case.

The contacts are being monitored by health officials as part of measures to identify any possible symptoms early and prevent further spread of the virus.

The 10 people placed in quarantine remain under close observation as the government continues to assess the situation and strengthen its response to the outbreak.
