The US mission in Saudi Arabia has urged American citizens in the country to remain vigilant amid the possibility of aerial drone or missile attacks.
In a security alert issued on October 5, the mission advised US citizens to follow safety guidance and alerts issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence.
The mission said there had been no change to its security and operational posture, adding that regular and emergency consular services remained available to US citizens.
Americans in Saudi Arabia were advised to review the US State Department’s travel advisory for the country and enrol in the Smart Traveller Enrolment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and facilitate contact during emergencies.
The mission also issued safety guidelines in the event of an aerial attack.
US citizens were advised to stay away from glass doors and windows and avoid fallen debris. They were also urged to monitor their phones, local media and official channels for further instructions.
The mission asked Americans to keep their mobile phones charged and have emergency numbers for the US Embassy in Riyadh and consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran readily available.
Citizens were further advised to remain aware of their surroundings, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, and stay away from areas with a heavy police presence.
The mission urged Americans to follow instructions from Saudi authorities and contact their airlines directly for information about flight changes if their travel plans were affected.
It also advised US citizens to exercise caution at locations publicly associated with the United States and maintain a low profile.
The alert listed emergency contacts for the US Embassy in Riyadh and consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran.
The US Department of State’s Consular Affairs offices can also be reached from abroad and from the US and Canada.
