Eleven years ago, Ne-Yo walked into a Nairobi recording booth and left an indelible mark on East African pop culture. From crafting a Coke Studio mega-anthem to cutting a global hit with Diamond Platnumz, his 2015 stay proved his sound knew no borders.

On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, the 23 billion-stream legend returns to the capital for "One Night Only: Brunch Edition" at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. Here is how a decade of nostalgia leads back to the Nairobi stage

The 2015 Landmark Visit and Coke Studio Mash-Up

He first visited Nairobi to participate in the third season of Coke Studio Africa. During the recording sessions in the capital, Ne-Yo teamed up with five African artists for a special mega mash-up and theme song.

The collaborative line-up featured Kenyan rapper Wangechi, Tanzanian singer Ali Kiba, Ugandan artist Maurice Kirya, Nigerian rapper Ice Prince, and Mozambican singer Dama Do Bling. South African producer Zwai Bala produced the collaborative tracks.

The project marked a major cross-continental fusion between American R&B production and East and West African artistry.

The Hit Collaboration with Diamond Platnumz

While in Nairobi for his 2015 Coke Studio stint, Ne-Yo also linked up with Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz. The duo recorded the collaborative track "Marry You" at a Nairobi studio.

The single and its official music video were officially released on February 2017. The music video was filmed in two international locations: Los Angeles in the United States and Johannesburg in South Africa.

The collaboration went on to achieve extensive radio play and digital streaming across the East African region.
