The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has stepped up measures to address emerging and persistent security concerns as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
The agency said security agencies operating under the multi-agency framework are putting measures in place to ensure a safe and secure environment conducive to a free, fair and credible election.
The DCI remains a key player in preventing and investigating crime, with the agency seeking to address security threats that could affect residents and businesses in the capital.
Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) Setim Kandie said the DCI had put in place measures to tackle a range of security concerns, including goonism, misinformation and disinformation.
He said the agency was also addressing different forms of robbery, including phone snatching and motor vehicle theft, as well as the “kazi majuu” scams that have continued to affect members of the public.
The security measures come as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace, with security agencies expected to play a key role in maintaining law and order before, during and after the polls.
While addressing the media in Nairobi, Kandie assured residents that the DCI had adopted an open-door policy in dealing with security concerns.
He encouraged members of the public to share information on incidents and other issues affecting their security to enable authorities to take timely and appropriate action.
The RCIO said cooperation between security agencies and members of the public would remain important in identifying and responding to emerging security threats.
The DCI has also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities and criminal incidents through established communication channels.
Residents can contact the National Police Service through emergency numbers 999, 911 and 112.
Members of the public can also report incidents anonymously to the DCI through its toll-free hotline 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The agency said information provided by members of the public would assist investigators in responding to security concerns and taking appropriate action.
With Nairobi expected to remain a key focus of security preparations ahead of the 2027 elections, authorities are seeking greater cooperation from residents as they work to prevent crime and maintain public safety.
