People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has laid her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, to rest in Kirinyaga.
Karua said she and her family walked beside him on his final journey with heavy hearts, while remaining grateful for the years they shared with him.
“One final journey with Dad,” Karua said in a tribute shared after the burial on October 3.
“We walk beside him with heavy hearts, grateful for the years we were blessed to share and for all that he gave us.”
Karua described her father’s burial as a moment that brought together family, friends and leaders from across the country to honour his life.
She thanked those who attended the ceremony and stood with her family as they mourned Mwalimu Jackson Karua.
“To everyone who came in large numbers to mourn with us, honour my father and stand with our family, thank you,” she said.
Karua said their presence was “a profound expression of love and respect” for her father and a reminder of the lives he touched throughout his life.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta attended the ceremony alongside Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and PPK leader Ndindi Nyoro, among other leaders.
Karua said the presence of leaders and mourners from different backgrounds had reminded her that Kenyans could hold different political convictions while recognising their shared humanity.
“Their presence has reminded me that Kenya does not have to be defined by the things that divide us,” she said.
Karua’s father died on September 27 after she and her siblings spent time with him at his home in Kirinyaga earlier that day.
She said they sang his favourite gospel hymn during the visit, unaware that it would be their last song together.People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua with family and friends during the burial of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, in Kirinyaga on Saturday, October 3, 2026/X
“On my way back to Nairobi, I received the news that my beloved father had breathed his last,” Karua said when announcing his death.
She described him as a principled man, teacher and strong believer in character, education and doing what is right.
“But to us, above all, he was a loving father, steady, generous, and present,” she said.
Karua said she would miss his voice, counsel and encouragement, but would carry with her everything he taught her and the love he gave her.
“Rest peacefully, Dad. We will carry you with us, always,” she said.People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua with family and friends during the burial of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, in Kirinyaga on Saturday, October 3, 2026/X
