Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has said he sharpened his weaponry and basic combat skills during his stay in Texas as his extended tour of the United States entered its final phase.
Gachagua said he used his time in Texas to practise skills he learnt earlier in life while serving in the security sector.
“While in Texas I have taken time to practice and sharpen my skills in weaponry and basic combat skills that I learnt in my earlier life while serving in the security sector,” he said.
The former Deputy President also said he had his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, undergo basic self-defence training during the trip.
He linked the training to what he described as the difficult times facing Kenya, saying it was part of his responsibility as a spouse.
“In the difficult times we face back home, where goonism is a way of life, as a responsible spouse I have taken the advantage of my trip in the United States to have Rev. Dorcas taken through basic skills in self defence,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua said the practice was also attended by Embakasi North MP James Gakuya and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru Mejjadonk.
“We were joined by Hon. MejjaDonk Gathiru and Hon. James Gakuya for the practice, which makes my team stronger and well prepared for any eventuality in the challenging times we face as we engage Kenyans,” he said.Pastor Dorcas Rigathi undergo basic self-defence training during US trip/HANDOUT
The comments came as Gachagua and Dorcas concluded their engagements in Texas before travelling to Boston, Massachusetts, where the DCP leader is expected to continue meeting Kenyans living in the United States.
Gachagua has been in Dallas since September 25 as part of his US tour involving diaspora engagements, political meetings and discussions on investment and Kenya’s economic prospects.
His Boston leg is scheduled to run from October 1 to October 9 and is expected to be the final major stop on the published itinerary.
The Texas leg also included meetings with investors, who the DCP said expressed strong interest in investing in Kenya.

As he concluded his Texas engagements, Gachagua and Dorcas also took part in a horseback ride before travelling to Boston.
