KCB's George Ooro on route to scoring a try against Kabras during the Christie sevens recently/HANDOUTKCB face Kobs of Uganda in a high-profile pre-season showdown at the Lions Den in Ruaraka on Saturday.
Both teams are sponsored by Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and featured in the 2026 Enterprise Cup, where they exited at the quarter-final stage.
Kobs fell 29–13 to Nondescripts in Nakuru, while KCB lost 11–10 to Uganda’s Black Pirates in Kampala.
KCB coach Andrew Amonde said the clash will be significant for the bankers as they prepare for the Impala Floodlit tournament in three weeks’ and the Kenya Cup, which kicks off on November 21.
“This match will give us an indication of where we are tracking after an eight-week pre-season. A good number of our backs featured in the National Sevens Series, so they have trained for a couple of weeks and have just switched to 15s. Let’s see how they adjust,” said Amonde.
“I want to see our combinations in certain positions, especially in the forwards. The second rows and props need to do their core roles by winning the scrum and lineout battles, as well as the battle on the gainline.”
Amonde described Kobs as a quality side and KCB would not underestimate them.
“We must front up for this match and give ourselves momentum heading to the Impala Floodlights, a title we want to reclaim,” he said.
A win against Kobs, followed by success in the Impala Floodlit, would give KCB good momentum heading into their Kenya Cup opener against Kabras at the Kakamega Showground.
KCB have lost three of the past four Kenya Cup finals, including their most recent final against Kabras in May.
“We pushed them close in the final in May, which we missed due to poor kicking. We have worked on that in pre-season, so let’s see how our kicking for points will be during the course of the season,” noted Amonde.
