The vehicle being towed from the scene/HANDOUT

Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo has reassured his supporters that he is safe after being involved in a road accident on Monday night.

Gisairo said he sustained no major injuries, except for muscle pulls from the impact, after his vehicle was hit from behind by a speeding pickup allegedly leased to a ministry.

“Most importantly, I would like to say that we are safe except for the muscle pulls from absorbing the impact,” Gisairo said.

The MP said the accident happened as he travelled to Nairobi from his constituency.

He said the pickup lost control and rolled onto the road shoulder after hitting his vehicle from behind.

His driver, however, managed to safely bring their car to a stop despite losing the rear right tyre.

Gisairo said he and his team assisted the two occupants of the pickup after the crash, but the two were shortly afterwards taken away from the scene.

He said traffic police officers had arrived at the scene but questioned the circumstances under which the two occupants were taken away before what he described as the proper procedures could be followed.

“I can confirm that I have reported the matter to the relevant agencies and they are cooperating in the investigations,” he said.

Gisairo claimed that the ministry had identified the two occupants of the pickup, as well as the ministry officers who allegedly took them away from the scene.

He expressed confidence that the matter would be fully addressed and that any officers found culpable would face disciplinary action in accordance with the law.

The MP thanked his supporters for their concern and the messages he received following the accident.

“To all my supporters, I thank you for the overwhelming concerns and messages. I love you all. Sasa tujenge taifa pamoja,” he said.
