Interior PS Raymond Omollo has inspected the ongoing construction at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, which he says is 68 per cent comwplete ahead of the October 20 Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Omollo said contractors are working day and night to complete much of the remaining work by October 14, with other preparations also in top gear.

“We are happy with the work so far done to ensure that we are set for the event”, said Omollo.

He said for the first time the event will be co-hosted by the three counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet.

Omollo said the theme of Mashujaa Day this year will revolve around security, sports and finance.

President Ruto is expected to tour the three counties for several days to commission development projects before presiding over the Mashujaa Day fete at the stadium.

“We expect to achieve substantial work on the stadium by October 14, but I have no doubt that we will be ready to host the celebrations,” said Omollo.

Much of the work is being done by the Ministry of Sports with support from the Ministry of Defence.

Omollo was accompanied by PS for Immigration Belio Kipsang and Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Edisson Nyale.

The PS said they were looking at several issues, including roads, water and housing, which are ongoing ahead of the event.

Concurrently, PS Omollo said all preparatory events, including the military parade, were going on ahead of the event.

Omollo urged residents of Eldoret City and the three counties to be ready to host a high number of guests.

“It's a good time for the residents of this region to showcase what they have in all areas and join the president in marking Mashujaa Day.

Kipsang also urged residents to use the opportunity to showcase their culture and sports prowess as the country and international guests will be converging in the region.

Eldoret City is being given a major facelift, with roads and pavements under repair, along with mega projects such as affordable housing units and markets to be commissioned by the president.
