Menengai Oilers' playmaker Glacious Owino has been rewarded for an outstanding season with a place in the Kenya Shujaa provisional squad for the Safari Sevens.
Owino is among eight new faces included in the 33-man squad following the conclusion of the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, where Oilers finished third overall.

The playmaker played a pivotal role in Oilers’ strong finish to the season, helping them end a four-match losing streak by inspiring a 24-12 victory over Strathmore Leos in Sunday’s Christie Sevens final.
His impressive displays throughout the circuit have now earned him a chance to train with the wider national team as Kenya begins preparations for the Safari Sevens, the Africa Cup and the international sevens season.
Owino is joined by Oilers teammate Lucky Onyango, Kisumu RFC speedster Harrison Mauve, Kabras RFC forward Matthias Osimbo, Graham Shimon of Nakuru, Brighton Omondi of Quins, Flavian Otiyo of Masinde Muliro University and Richel Wangila of KCB.
The selected players will join the rest of the squad in training on Thursday as Shujaa begin preparations for the Safari Sevens and Africa Cup, while also building towards the international season that will see Kenya host an HSBC Sevens Challenger event next year.
Kenya Rugby Union Director of Rugby Paul Odera praised the National Sevens Circuit for providing a platform for emerging talent to break into the national-team set-up.

“We saw impressive plays from the players and the teams, and congratulations to the new faces who have joined the wider national team as we prepare for Safari Sevens and Africa Cup, as well as other international tournaments for this season,” said Odera.
The 33-man Shujaa squad will be reduced to 26 players ahead of the Africa Cup Sevens in Mauritius, where the Kenya Morans will compete next month before returning home for the Safari Sevens alongside Shujaa.
The Kenya Lionesses have also named a provisional 31-player squad for the upcoming competitions, with training expected to begin later this week.
The Lionesses selection includes 16 senior players alongside 15 players drawn from the Junior Lionesses pathway, reflecting the growing emphasis on developing talent through the high-school system.
The men’s provisional squad comprises players from KCB, Kabras, Strathmore, Oilers, Daystar Falcons, Mwamba, Nakuru, Quins, Kisumu RFC and MMUST— providing a blend of established international players and emerging talent from the domestic sevens circuit.
