President William Ruto has launched the Kalandini-Ka Elija Road in Rarieda constituency, Siaya county, as part of his ongoing development tour of the Nyanza region.

The road project is among several infrastructure investments lined up during the President’s four-day tour of Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homa Bay counties. The Kalandini-Ka Elija route is expected to improve connectivity within Rarieda and ease movement for residents and businesses in the area.

The project is officially listed by the State Department for Roads as the Kalandini-Lwala-Ka Elija Road, under the national roads development programme.

The 2026-27 development estimates allocate Sh95.46 million to the project for the current financial year, with additional funding projected for subsequent years.

The National Assembly’s Budget Committee also recommended an additional Sh100 million allocation for the road in the 2026-27 development budget, reflecting continued government funding for the project.

Ruto’s visit to Rarieda is part of a broader infrastructure-focused programme in Siaya, which also includes the Kodiaga-Rabango-Ratuoro-Usenge Road, Sihayi-Bar Ober-Sega Road and the Dhogoye Bridge in Bondo.

The launch highlights the government’s push to improve road connectivity in the region, with the projects expected to support movement, trade and access to services across communities in Siaya county.
