National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has joined the people of Chwele in mourning four traders who died in a road accident at Mai Mahiu while travelling to Karatina to procure groceries.

Wetang'ula condoled with the bereaved families and the wider business community, saying his thoughts and prayers were with those affected by the tragedy.

"I join the people of Chwele in Kabuchai, our business community and the bereaved families in mourning the tragic loss of our loved ones in the Mai Mahiu road accident while travelling to Karatina," Wetang'ula said.

He also prayed for the quick recovery of those injured and receiving treatment.

The four traders from Chwele Market in Bungoma county died in the accident, according to Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

Lusaka said five other members of the business community were injured and were receiving treatment at various hospitals.

"To the five others currently receiving treatment in various hospitals, we wish them a swift and full recovery," Lusaka said.

President William Ruto also mourned the four traders and sent condolences to their families and relatives.

"We are saddened by the death of four traders from Chwele Market in Bungoma county who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Mai Mahiu," Ruto said.

Wetang'ula described the accident as a painful reminder of the importance of road safety and urged motorists to exercise caution.

"I urge all motorists to exercise patience, discipline and caution while using our roads. No journey is so urgent that it should put a human life at risk," he said.

Lusaka assured the victims and their families of the county government's support as they deal with the loss.

"As a County Government, we stand firmly with them and their families during this difficult time, and we will continue to offer our support in every way possible," he said.

Wetang'ula also sent his condolences to the affected families, relatives, friends and the entire Chwele community.

"May God grant comfort and strength to every family affected by this tragedy, and may the departed souls rest in eternal peace," he said.
