President William Ruto

The three-day trip will also provide the President with another opportunity to consolidate his political inroads in the ODM stronghold as he seeks to strengthen his support base ahead of the 2027 general election. Ruto is seeking to deepen his support in Nyanza, especially following political rebellion in parts of Mt Kenya.

President William Ruto is set to return to the Nyanza region for a three-day whistle-stop tour, days after a development and political blitz of the South Rift.

The President will on Wednesday start his four-day tour of the South Rift region for the next four days.

After the South Rift offensive, he will begin his latest tour of the traditional ODM political zone in Kisumu County.

He is expected to attend a church service before embarking on an inspection of ongoing government projects.

The three-day trip will also provide the head of state with another opportunity to consolidate his political inroads in the ODM stronghold as he seeks to strengthen his support base.

His repeated visits to the region have increasingly been accompanied by project launches, inspections and engagements with local leaders as the battle for influence in the vote-rich Nyanza bloc intensifies

Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron confirmed the visit that is expected to be another major push by the Kenya Kwanza administration to showcase its development record in a region that has historically been an opposition stronghold.

“We are aware but we don’t have the details,” Oron told the Star.

The President will then proceed to Siaya before winding up the tour in the South Nyanza counties of Homa Bay and Migori.

The visit comes as the government rolls out more than Sh220 billion worth of projects across Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori, covering roads, housing, markets, health, water and other infrastructure.

In Kisumu, some of the flagship projects include the Sh15.9 billion Kisumu-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet road and the Lumumba affordable housing project.

The government is also pushing ahead with the upgrading of Moi Stadium and has launched the Kisumu-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway extension.

In Siaya, the President's administration has lined up the Kodiaga-Rabango-Usenge road project, while work on Dhogoye Bridge is progressing.

The government is also constructing the Alego Usonga affordable housing project in Siaya town.

Homa Bay has similarly benefited from projects targeting roads, markets, housing and the blue economy, with the government also investing in marine infrastructure along Lake Victoria as part of a wider regional development programme.

In Migori, key projects include the Mabera affordable housing programme, a modern market and ongoing works at Kegonga hospital, which are expected to improve housing, trade and access to healthcare.

In Bomet county, the President will be at Itembe Airstrip, Bomet Mother and Child Hospital before proceeding to Tegat and concluding the day with a visit to Mindililwet in Soin Sigowet.

On Thursday, he will be in Kipkelion East (Furaha), Bureti (Rangut Primary School), Kapkatet Stadium, Bomet Central (Kamureito) and Sotik (Kamureito).

On Friday, the President will cross to Kipkelion West (Kokwet), Ainamoi (Kapssoit), Torit junction and Konoin Constituency (Boito).

The South Rift tour will end on Saturday with stopovers in Chebunyo in Bomet and Kericho Town.
