The FAKE notice/ HANDOUT
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned the public against a fake notice circulating online claiming to provide driving school services and driving licence class categories and fees.
The notice, titled “NTSA Driving Licence Class Categories & Amounts”, lists different licence classes, including motorcycle, three-wheeler, automatic and manual cars, PSV, heavy commercial vehicles, trailers and tank trucks, alongside amounts running into thousands of shillings.
NTSA said the poster is not associated with the Authority and described it as a scam.
“The Authority has not contracted any individual or organisation to serve as its agent,” NTSA said.
The Authority also clarified that it does not operate any driving school.
“NTSA does not operate any driving school. Anyone claiming to offer driver training, operate a driving school, or issue driving licences on behalf of the Authority is misleading the public and the matter should be reported to the nearest police station,” it said.
NTSA said its mandate includes licensing driving schools, testing learner drivers and issuing driving licences.
It advised members of the public seeking driving school-related services to apply and process them through the NTSA service portal available on the eCitizen platform.
The Authority also released the official fees for driving school-related services.
A provisional driving licence costs Sh650, test booking Sh1,050, an interim driving licence Sh750, while a smart driving licence costs Sh3,050.
NTSA urged the public not to share personal information with individuals claiming to offer its services.
“If you come across a suspicious account claiming to belong to NTSA, do not engage. Block it and report it immediately,” the Authority said.
For driving school management enquiries, including driving school licensing, provisional driving licence applications, driver test booking, test updates and driving licence class endorsement, the public can contact NTSA through [email protected].
NTSA's contact centre numbers are 0709 932300 and 0709 932000.
The Authority said its official SMS sender names are NTSA and 22847_NTSA, while its official social media accounts are @NTSAKENYA on Facebook and @ntsa_kenya on X.
NTSA further urged motorists and members of the public to use its official website and service channels when seeking transport-related services to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.
