Kerarapon Primary School pupils get a glimpse of the planned improvements during the groundbreaking ceremony for the school’s infrastructure project.
Kerarapon Primary School in Kajiado County is set for an infrastructure upgrade following a Sh27 million investment by the M-PESA Foundation.
The project will improve sanitation and security at the school, which has 515 learners and 15 teachers.
Established in 1962, Kerarapon Primary has for years relied on temporary mabati structures for its sanitation and utility facilities.
The upgrade will include construction of a 10-door boys’ ablution block and a four-door ablution block for teachers.
The project will also include secure perimeter fencing.
The works are expected to be completed in about 120 days.

M-Pesa Foundation Trustee Patricia Ithau (R) and Safaricom PLC’s David Nyamai witness the groundbreaking of an infrastructure upgrade at Kerarapon Primary School in Kajiado County.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, M-Pesa Foundation Trustee Patricia Ithau noted that the project is being implemented under the M-Pesa Foundation’s Citizens of the Future programme, a nationwide initiative focused on improving learning environments and supporting education in Kenya.
“I know that true education is the quiet confidence a young girl feels when she walks into a clean school and knows she belongs there. True education is equally the pride a young boy feels when he walks into a clean and secure school, and realises his future is not limited by his village, but by his imagination. And I’m happy because the young boys and girls at Kerarapon Primary School are part of the solution to our region’s challenges and the worrying statistics,” Ithau said.
According to the Foundation, the programme seeks to upgrade school infrastructure, strengthen teacher capacity in information and communications technology and support digital learning.
The initiative targets more than 500 schools across the country.
The Foundation has said the programme builds on its long-term investment in education and seeks to create better environments for learners while supporting teachers and schools.
The Citizens of the Future programme includes interventions aimed at renovating schools, empowering teachers and digitising education.
The Foundation has also previously undertaken school infrastructure projects in different counties under the same programme.
In June 2025, it announced a Sh151 million investment in education projects in Bungoma, Baringo and Homa Bay counties, saying similar projects were being undertaken across all 47 counties.
At Kerarapon Primary, the latest investment will specifically address sanitation, utility and security infrastructure.
The Foundation says improving school infrastructure is part of its broader effort under Citizens of the Future to enhance learning environments and support better educational outcomes across Kenya.
