DCI detectives in Kisauni have arrested a suspect and rescued two minors who had been reported missing in Mombasa.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the children were reported missing on August 27, 2026, after they were allegedly abducted two days earlier at Sensera in Kiembeni.
The DCI said investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly acted with another person who is still at large.
The two minors were allegedly forced to cut off communication with their families before being taken to Kiambu County, where detectives say they were confined in an empty room.
The DCI further alleges that one of the minors was sexually assaulted while in captivity.
The children were later released after spending several days in confinement, with the DCI saying they were allegedly threatened with death if they disclosed what had happened.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 7, where the DCI said he is expected to face charges including defilement, kidnapping and child trafficking.
The charges are allegations and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
Investigations are continuing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify and arrest the second suspect.

Cases involving missing and allegedly abducted children have continued to draw concern in Kenya, with reported incidents showing different circumstances, including alleged kidnappings for ransom, child trafficking and sexual exploitation.
A 2021 investigation found that increased internet use had exposed children to online grooming, sexual exploitation and abuse, with some girls reportedly being lured through social media before disappearing.
In January 2024, a 12-year-old girl who had been abducted from her home in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area was found in Kitui County five days later.
A suspect was arrested after the case attracted a search involving DCI officers and members of the public.
