Global ESport FederationPresident Paul Foster/ HANDOUTKenya hopes to use Global E-sports Federation (GEF) President Paul Foster’s maiden visit to the country to push their case for hosting major international esports events while strengthening talent development and long-term partnerships in the sector.
Foster is expected in the country for a four-day official visit from September 6 to 9.
Esports Kenya Federation President Ronny Lusigi confirmed the high-level engagement offers the country an opportunity to advance its position in the global e-sports ecosystem.
“Sir Paul’s visit presents an important opportunity to advance discussions around Kenya’s esports events hosting capacity, talent development pathways and the long-term collaboration between the Global Esports body and Kenyan stakeholders across government, academia and the private sector,” said Lusigi.
The visit will bring together government, industry, grassroots talent, academia and the diplomatic community as Kenya seeks to strengthen its role as one of Africa’s leading esports hubs.
Foster is expected to hold high-level government meetings, address students at the Catholic University of East Africa, attend GEFCon Nairobi at Weston Hotel, participate in a media roundtable and visit grassroots esports facilities.
GEFCon Nairobi will provide a platform for stakeholders, industry leaders, brands, policymakers, academics and other partners to explore the growth and development of esports in Kenya and across Africa.
The ESKF hopes the engagements will translate into increased knowledge exchange, investment, talent development opportunities and stronger links between Kenyan stakeholders and the wider global esports movement.
GEF Vice President and African Esports Development Federation President Tommy Sithole and GEF Chief Impact Officer Thanos Karagrounas will accompany Foster.
Kenya has steadily strengthened its standing in the global esports landscape, with the Esports Kenya Federation driving the growth of competitive gaming through national competitions, grassroots programmes, talent development and international participation.
The country has also expanded its presence on the global stage, most recently qualifying for the 2026 FIFAe Continental Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, where Daniel and Martin Kibiwott represented Kenya in the eFootball 2v2 Console competition.
The federation now hopes to build on that momentum by attracting major international events, creating stronger pathways for emerging players and securing greater investment and partnerships for the local esports ecosystem
