The Madaraka Express/FILEKenya Railways has announced additional special train services between Nairobi and Mombasa, giving passengers more travel options on Monday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
In a public notice, Kenya Railways said the additional services would be available for booking as it seeks to accommodate increased passenger demand.
On Monday, August 31, the special train will depart from the Mombasa Terminus at 8.40 pm.
On Tuesday, September 1, passengers will have two additional services, with a train departing from the Nairobi Terminus at 9.40 am and another leaving the Mombasa Terminus at 4.30 pm.
“Kenya Railways wishes to inform members of the public that additional special train services will be available for booking on August 31, 2026 and September 1, 2026,” the railway operator said.
The announcement provides passengers travelling between the two cities with additional options beyond the regular services, particularly for those looking for alternative travel times.
Kenya Railways encouraged passengers to make their bookings early to secure seats on the additional services.
“Passengers are encouraged to make their bookings early and take advantage of the additional train services,” the notice said.
The railway operator also cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant when purchasing tickets, urging them to use only its official booking channels.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and only book through our official Kenya Railways channels,” Kenya Railways said.
Passengers can make bookings online through the Kenya Railways ticketing platform, by using the *639# USSD service, or by visiting any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station in person.
The additional services come as rail transport remains an important option for passengers travelling between Nairobi and Mombasa, with the Madaraka Express providing a regular connection between the capital and the Coast.
Kenya Railways said passengers seeking to use the special services should make their arrangements early and rely on the official channels to avoid falling victim to fraudulent ticket sellers.
The notice applies to the additional services scheduled for August 31 and September 1, with passengers advised to confirm their bookings and travel arrangements before heading to the respective termini.
