A familiar stage, a familiar response
Diamond took to the stage at about 12:42am, following performances from several of Rwanda's leading musicians.
He opened his set with “Komasava” before moving through a catalogue that included “Marry You” and “Why”. Reports from the event said fans sang and danced along as he performed more than 25 songs.
“It’s been a long time — I miss you. I’m excited and I can’t wait to see you.”
The response echoed the reception Diamond received during his previous Kigali appearances.
In August 2023, he headlined the opening ceremony of the Giants of Africa Festival in the city. More than 6,500 people attended that performance, according to The New Times.
Part of the Retro Tour
The Kigali concert formed part of Diamond's ongoing Retro Tour, a multi-country series that has taken him across Africa and other international markets since April.
The tour focuses on songs from different stages of his career, giving audiences an opportunity to revisit some of the records that established his position as one of East Africa's most recognisable music stars.
The Rwanda show also brought together a strong regional line-up.
Rwandan performers Bruce Melodie, Nel Ngabo and Ish Kevin appeared alongside Ugandan singer Etania, while DJs including Marnaud and Khizz Beats were also part of the programme.
Kigali remains an important stop
Diamond's return places Kigali among the cities that have continued to feature prominently in his regional touring schedule.
His previous performances have helped build a long-standing relationship with Rwandan audiences. The latest show offered another opportunity to test that connection, with fans turning out for a performance built around both his established hits and newer material.
The singer's Kigali appearance also comes as his Retro Tour continues to expand its reach, reinforcing his focus on live performances across the region.
For Diamond, the Kigali stage was familiar territory. For the fans who waited three years to see him perform there again, the concert provided a chance to renew a musical connection that had been built over several years.
