
A 56-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by an
unknown assailant near the gate of her home in Nyatike, Migori County, in a
suspected targeted attack.
Mary Akinyi Ouko, an omena vendor from Nyandema F Village, was attacked on Friday night as she returned home from Nyandema Market.
According to police the incident occurred in
Ongoche Sub-location, South Kadem Location.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found Ouko lying in a pool of blood near her homestead.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the
assailant confronted her near the gate to her home and stabbed her three times
in the neck.
The victim reportedly screamed for help, prompting neighbours to respond.
However, she collapsed and died from excessive bleeding before she could be rescued.
The motive for the attack had not been established, and the assailant was still at large.
Police processed the scene before the body was
moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem
examination.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify the suspect.
Meanwhile, a two-year-old child drowned after allegedly slipping into a pool in Arombe village, Suna West Sub-County, Migori county.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The deceased was playing near a pool estimated to be one metre deep with another child, a five-year-old, when he allegedly slipped and fell into the water.
The child raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene and retrieve the child’s body from the pool.
Police officers who visited the scene said the body had no visible injuries.
It was removed and taken to the Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Elsewhere, police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a man who succumbed to head injuries several days after he was allegedly attacked by people known to him in Kariokor.
The deceased, Kennedy Otieno Ogonda, was allegedly hit several times on the head with blunt objects on August 22, 2026, within Kariokor.
His wife, a resident of Dandora Phase 4, reported the incident.
According to the report, Ogonda sustained serious
head injuries during the alleged assault and was rushed to Brother Andre
Hospital in Dandora, where he was admitted for treatment.
His condition later deteriorated, prompting his transfer to Kenyatta National Hospital on August 24.
He subsequently died while undergoing treatment at the facility.
The identities of the alleged attackers and the
motive for the assault had not been established by the time of reporting.
