Kenyan comedian and content creator Eddie Butita has sparked a massive online conversation regarding how different communities age. Butita took to Instagram to share his humorous frustrations.
He contrasted the ageing process of his own tribe, the Luhya, with that of the Kamba community.
The comedian spoke out following the 40th birthday of veteran actor and digital creator Abel Mutua. Mutua celebrated his milestone birthday on 28 August 2026. Despite reaching 40, Mutua continues to maintain an exceptionally youthful look.
The Kamba Versus Luhya Disparity
Butita expressed total disbelief at how members of the Kamba community seem to defy the physical signs of growing older. He joked that Kamba people manage to look youthful even in their advanced years.
"Kwa nini Wakamba hawazeeki, tulikosea wapi sisi Waluhya? Unakutana na Mkamba ako 40, 60, 70 ni sura tu inakauka. Mkamba hazeeki. How is Abel 40 years? 40 years aje? 40 years aje?" Butita said in his video.
Butita humorously claimed that he is the only young-looking exception in his entire tribe. "Mbona sisi hatukai vijana apart from mimi?" he joked.
A Lacking Transition
According to Butita, Luhya people do not experience a gradual physical transition from childhood to senior citizenship. He joked that they simply skip their teenage and youthful years entirely.
"Waluhya hata hatuna transition. Hatukuwangi hata vijana hatukuangi. It's either sisi ni watoto ama wababa," Butita lamented.
To support his claim, Butita singled out fellow comedian DJ Shiti. He jokingly asserted that Shiti's appearance makes him look much older than his years.
"Angalia mtu kama DJ Shit 24 years old but angalia anakaa anakaa," Butita said.
Joking Accusations of Tribalism
Butita did not restrict his playful commentary to the Luhya and Kamba. He jokingly accused nature of practicing tribalism when distributing physical youthfulness.
"There is tribalism when it comes to aging," Butita asserted.
He pointed to comedian Njugush, who is currently 33 years old, as another example of rapid ageing. "You can't explain to me how an old man like Njugush is 33 and he looks 64," Butita joked.
"Wakisii tusiongelee by the way juu hao walizaliwa kama wamezeeka kabisa kabisa," Butita remarked. "Wajaka najua mnazeekanga instant."
Butita closed his video by demanding that his friend Abel Mutua show typical signs of growing older. "Abel anakuaje 40 years bana anafaa azeeke huyu ni mzee," Butita said.
