The Kenyan entertainment industry is in mourning following the tragic death of Arbantone rapper Stoopid Boy on Thursday, 27 August 2026. Famous for his hit song "G Bag Na Jug", the Gotta City musician allegedly died by suicide.
The tragedy occurred just two months after the rapper lost his older brother, Yan, adding further grief to a family already in pain.
In the wake of the news, comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has shared a highly emotional message. Obinna, who previously spearheaded efforts to support the artist, turned his anger towards the public. He accused Kenyans of hypocrisy and superficial grief.
Obinna's Emotional Accusations
Obinna did not hold back in his response to the online tributes. He suggested that many of those mourning actually played a role in the rapper's struggles.
In a public social media statement, Obinna wrote:
"Yes, we can blame alcohol, we can blame depression, but every Kenyan who knew of him had a role in his demise,” he posted.
He went on to highlight online bullying and exploitation by content creators:
Obinna's message also featured a list detailing how different people contributed to the situation, pointing to active online abuse, laughing, and mocking in his comment section.
The media personality pointed out that many people encouraged the artist's downward spiral and did nothing to help:
"Every one of us has blood on our hands for this one."
He ended his message by telling hypocritical mourners to stay silent:
"Another life that didn't have to be lost."
The Rehabilitation Journey
Obinna's connection to Stoopid Boy was deeply personal. In early 2025, after Stoopid Boy appeared on his show admitting to severe substance abuse, Obinna stepped in to help. Alongside other well-wishers, he secured a place for the rapper in a rehabilitation programme.
On 2o May 2025, Obinna led a group of content creators to receive Stoopid Boy after he successfully completed a three-month rehabilitation session. Obinna proposed a strict three-month recovery plan to prevent relapse.
Obinna explained the structured transition:
"The plan is simple: we are going to support Stoopid through his journey, and then we are also going to restructure his career."
To monitor him daily, Stoopid Boy was moved in with Obinna's bodyguard, Munez, and Omosh. The plan included gym sessions and enrolling him in a media institute to learn video production, photo editing, and graphic design.
"If we allow him to go back to the same environment, a lot might not change."
Challenges After Rehab
Despite these efforts, the post-rehabilitative transition faced severe hurdles. In June 2025, just weeks after the rapper left rehab, Obinna clarified that their working relationship had shifted. He confirmed that Stoopid Boy was not signed under Obinna TV Studios.
Obinna admitted: "We are not working as closely as we wanted to."
