According to Sammyboy, some of the people responding to the sale are more interested in experiencing the vehicle than completing a purchase.
He said prospective buyers have arrived to take selfies and videos with the luxury SUV. Others, he claimed, have asked to test-drive the vehicle despite not having the money required to buy it.
The situation has reportedly left the social media personality questioning the seriousness of some of the enquiries he receives.
“Some people show up to view the car with no money, only to take selfies, videos and test-drive it.”
For a vehicle listed at nearly KSh10 million, allowing repeated test drives to people who have no intention or capacity to purchase can become a costly inconvenience.
The Velar sale
Sammyboy's decision to sell the vehicle has attracted attention online since he announced the asking price earlier this month.
Reports published on 14 and 15 August 2026 placed the asking price at KSh9.9 million. Several social media posts also identified it as a 2019 Range Rover Velar.
The sale comes only months after Sammyboy acquired the SUV, adding to the interest surrounding the decision.He had previously shared content featuring the vehicle, including posts about selling the Range Rover.
Why luxury car sales attract attention
Luxury vehicles have long had a strong presence on Kenyan social media, where high-end cars often become part of lifestyle content.
A Range Rover Velar can therefore attract attention from people who may want photographs or videos with the vehicle even when they are not genuine buyers.
That creates a challenge for private sellers. Distinguishing between a serious buyer and someone simply looking for an opportunity to experience an expensive car can be difficult.
A KSh9.9 million decision
Sammyboy's experience highlights the unusual side of selling a high-value vehicle through social media.
While the online exposure can potentially reach genuine buyers quickly, it can also generate enquiries from people interested in the spectacle surrounding the car.
For now, the Velar remains on the market at the advertised KSh9.9 million price.
