President William Ruto/PCSPresident William Ruto has announced that construction of the Narok Airport is expected to be completed within the next two months.
Speaking during the first day of his two-day visit to Narok County on Tuesday, Ruto said the Sh677 million facility would improve access to the Maasai Mara National Reserve and support the growth of the tourism sector.
The airport is expected to serve both domestic and international passengers, with the President saying it will support scheduled weekly flights from the Maasai Mara through Nairobi's Wilson Airport.
The project is being positioned as part of wider efforts to improve transport infrastructure and unlock Narok's tourism and economic potential.
Ruto also announced that the Kilgoris Airstrip had been completed and would complement the Narok Airport in improving air transport within the expansive county.
The President linked the aviation projects to the government's broader tourism ambitions, stressing that Kenya was targeting an increase in visitor numbers from the current 2.7 million to five million by 2028.
He described tourism as an important source of employment and economic growth, particularly for regions such as Narok that host major attractions.
The announcements came as Ruto toured several parts of the county, where he launched and inspected several development projects, including roads, electricity infrastructure and a modern market.
Among the projects launched was the construction of the 59-kilometre Enengetia-Olkurto-Olposimoru road in Narok North. The road will connect areas including Eneng'etia, Olkurto, Enkuseru, Olposimoru and Kiptenden.
Ruto said the road would improve the movement of agricultural produce from the region to markets and boost trade along the corridor.
He said the government was implementing about 300 kilometres of roads in Narok for Sh6 billion.
The President also cited the ongoing tarmacking of the Noswani-Naikarra-Morijo road, construction of the Ololung'a-Ewaso Ng'iro road and the Ololung'a-Sogoo-Saptet-Mulot road.
In Narok East, he pointed to the ongoing construction of the 40-kilometre Suswa-Inkorionito-Naiekia-Enkare road, while in Narok South he launched the 20-kilometre Ololung'a-Ewaso Ng'iro road.
Beyond transport infrastructure, Ruto announced plans to connect an additional 15,000 households in the county to electricity for Sh2.8 billion.
He also launched the Sh62 million Olposimoru Power Station in Narok West, which is expected to connect about 300 homes to electricity.
On housing and commerce, the President said Sh15 billion had been set aside for affordable housing, modern markets and university and college student hostels in the county.
He also handed over the Ololung'a Mama Mboga Modern Market, one of 17 markets the government says it is developing across Narok.
On electoral politics, the President urged residents to evaluate leaders based on their development record rather than what he termed tribal rhetoric and division.
“Kenyans want an agenda that delivers development and progress, not empty talk,” he said.
He described his competitors as lacking a plan or an agenda to present to the electorate.
“You know these people have no vision and agenda for Kenyans,” he said.
Ruto used the tour to reiterate his commitment to what he described as equitable development across the country.
