President William Ruto was on Tuesday received by a huge crowd in Narok West during the launch of the Sh62 million Olposimoru Power Station as he initiated his two-day development tour of the county.

Residents gathered at the project site to welcome the President, who was accompanied by local leaders during the tour, as the government highlighted its plans to expand electricity connectivity across Narok.

Ruto officially launched the power project, which is expected to connect more than 300 households in Olposimoru to electricity.

“Broke ground for the construction of the Sh62 million Olposimoru Power Station in Narok West Constituency. The project will connect schools, local trading centres and more than 300 households to electricity,” Ruto stated.

The project forms part of wider efforts by the government to expand last-mile electricity connectivity in the county and improve access to power for households and businesses.

Ruto announced that the government would invest an additional Sh2.8 billion to connect another 15,000 households across Narok to electricity.

“In the past three years, we have connected 14,000 households to electricity in Narok. This year, we are investing an additional Sh2.8 billion to connect another 15,000 households in the county,” he said.

The President said expanded access to electricity would help improve livelihoods and support economic activities, particularly in rural areas where businesses rely on reliable power to operate and grow.

The Olposimoru project is among several development initiatives Ruto launched or highlighted during his tour of Narok County.

Earlier in the visit, he launched the construction of the 59-kilometre Enengetia-Olkurto-Olposimoru road in Narok North, which is expected to improve transport and open up the agriculture-rich area to markets.

The government is also undertaking other road projects across the county, with Ruto saying about 300 kilometres of roads were being constructed for Sh6 billion.

In the tourism sector, the President announced that construction of the Narok Airport was expected to be completed within two months.

Ruto also announced that the Kilgoris Airstrip had been completed and would complement the Narok Airport in improving transport within the county.
