The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) says it has arrested a court clerk attached to a court in Busia following investigations into a reported Sh180,000 bribe demand linked to a criminal case.
The Commission said the arrest followed a report concerning a demand for money that was allegedly intended to influence the outcome of the case and secure a lenient penalty.
According to EACC, investigations began after a report indicated that a Magistrate, through the Court Clerk, had demanded the money in relation to a case involving a commercial vehicle that had been impounded by police officers over alleged traffic offences.
The Commission said the reported demand concerned the complainant and six co-accused persons in the case.
EACC said its officers mounted an operation on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, which led to the arrest after the Sh180,000 was received.
The Court Clerk is being held at the Commission’s Western Regional Office in Bungoma for processing. EACC said the clerk is expected to be booked at Bungoma Police Station as investigations continue.
The Commission said the operation forms part of its sustained efforts to tackle bribery and other forms of corruption.
EACC said the crackdown is aimed at safeguarding integrity and accountability in the delivery of public services and the administration of justice.
The Commission also reiterated its commitment to tackling bribery at service delivery points and enhancing services for all citizens.
