Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is celebrating her 76th birthday.
Her birthday comes about 10 months after the death of Raila, who passed away in October 2025.
The birthday on August 24, 2026, attracted warm messages from Kenyans, with political leaders and members of the public celebrating her life and contribution to the country.

Mama Ida is Kenya's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), where she represents the country on environmental matters.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna joined Kenyans in sending birthday wishes to Mama Ida, while Siaya Governor James Orengo described her as a pillar of Kenya's liberation.
'Happy Birthday, Min Piny, Mama Dr Ida Betty Odinga, a true pillar of Kenya’s liberation and a true mother of the nation," Orengo said.

Affectionately known as "Min Piny" and "Kibera Na Mama", Mama Ida has built a public legacy as an educator, activist and community leader.
Born in 1950, she has remained a prominent figure in Kenya's social and political life, including through her work in education and community development.

Senator Hamida Kibwana also sent her birthday wishes, describing Mama Ida as a woman of grace, strength and remarkable character.
"Happy Birthday, Mama Ida Odinga. Celebrating a woman of grace, strength and remarkable character. May this new chapter bring you peace, renewed strength and many beautiful moments to cherish," Kibwana said.
