The Judiciary/FILESeveral corruption-related cases involving current and former public officials will come before courts across Kenya this week, with hearings and mentions scheduled in matters being pursued by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
According to the EACC court diary for August 24 to 28, 2026, the cases involve allegations including conspiracy to commit corruption offences, money laundering, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, procurement violations and bribery.
One of the cases scheduled for hearing is that of former National Museums of Kenya Director General Mzalendo Kibunjia and seven others at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, August 24.
The accused face charges including conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime and financial misconduct.
The allegations relate to the purported embezzlement of Sh441.4 million through the fraudulent payment of salaries to people who were allegedly not employed by the institution.
The Milimani court will also hold a mention on Monday in the case involving former Murang’a Governor Francis Mwangi wa Iria and eight others.
They are charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, unlawful acquisition of public property, conflict of interest and money laundering.
The allegations concern an alleged illegal contract worth Sh351.1 million awarded by the Murang’a County Government to Top Image Media Consultants Limited.
A separate mention involving former West Pokot County Chief Officer for Education Simon Kachapin and three others is scheduled for Monday at the Eldoret Law Courts.
The four are charged with conspiracy to commit an economic crime and fraudulent acquisition of public property over allegations involving Sh296.5 million allegedly embezzled through irregular withdrawals from the West Pokot county Bursary, Education Development and Infrastructure Fund bank account between February 2018 and December 2021.
On Wednesday, August 26, the Kericho Law Court will hear a case involving former Kericho County Chief Officer Willy Kipkoech Langat over alleged procurement irregularities in the construction of Chepcholiet Water Pan.
The allegations relate to a loss of Sh9.5 million.
The same day, the Garissa Law Court is scheduled to hear the case against traffic police officer Lawrence Kiilu Kilonzo, who is charged with allegedly receiving a Sh2,500 bribe to release a confiscated driving licence.
On Thursday, August 27, several matters are listed for hearing.
At the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, Bomet Governor Hillary Kipng’eno Barchok and two others will face a hearing in a case in which they are charged with conflict of interest, acquisition and use of proceeds of crime and money laundering.
The allegations relate to the governor’s alleged receipt of a Sh2.7 million benefit from companies that traded with Bomet County to the tune of Sh152.3 million between the financial years 2019/2020 and 2024/2026.
In Machakos, the Anti-Corruption Court will hear the case involving Urbanus Wambua Musyoka, an employee of the Machakos County Government, and five others.
They face charges including conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property and wilful failure to comply with procurement laws.
The allegations relate to procurement irregularities in the award of a Sh45.4 million tender by the county government to Wisdom Holdings Ltd, a company associated with the first defendant.
Another case scheduled for Thursday is a suit involving Paul Murithi Theuri at the Environment and Land Court in Nakuru. The matter seeks recovery of Sh3.2 million allegedly illegally acquired funds belonging to Egerton University.
On Friday, August 28, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will hold a mention in the case involving former Lari MP John Mburu Mwangi and eight others.
They face charges of conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.
The allegations relate to the alleged embezzlement of Sh27.2 million at the Lari National Government Constituency Development Fund.
The court appearances form part of EACC’s ongoing prosecution and recovery work in cases involving suspected corruption and loss of public resources.
