Kenyan Gengetone group Angry Panda Clan are back with a new release, ‘Bad Girl’, marking another chapter for a group associated with the early wave of Nairobi’s Gengetone movement.
The release comes as the genre continues to find space on streaming platforms, playlists and radio shows, years after Gengetone became one of Kenya’s most recognisable youth-driven sounds.

Returning to a familiar sound
Angry Panda Clan emerged from Nairobi and have been associated with the Gengetone scene since the genre's rapid growth around the late 2010s.
The group is listed as a Kenyan Gengetone act based in Kasarani, Nairobi, with Mark Acairasan and Calypso identified among its members.
Their catalogue includes songs such as ‘Tapo’, ‘Nakudai’, ‘Katika’ and ‘Nipee Nikupee’, while their music has continued to appear on Gengetone playlists years after their initial breakthrough.
‘Tapo’, released in 2019, remains one of the group's better-known recordings. An Audiomack listing shows the track has accumulated more than 16,000 plays and more than 100 playlist additions on that platform.

The group's return comes after several releases in recent years, including ‘Pungulu’, a 2025 collaboration with Papa Nyosto.
Gengetone refuses to disappear
Although Gengetone's biggest commercial moment came several years ago, its influence has remained visible in Kenyan popular music.
Angry Panda Clan's ‘Tapo’ is still included in Spotify's current Gengetone Mix alongside songs by Ethic Entertainment, Boondocks Gang, Sailors and other artistes associated with the movement.
The group's music has also reached audiences outside Kenya's mainstream radio circuit.
In 2024, their track ‘Tapo’ appeared on an NTS Radio programme featuring selections from Nairobi's Gengetone scene.
Their 2025 song ‘Pungulu’ also appeared on another NTS programme focused on Kenya's evolving urban sounds.
A new test for the group
‘Bad Girl’ gives Angry Panda Clan an opportunity to reconnect with listeners who followed their earlier work while introducing their sound to a younger audience.
The Kenyan music landscape has changed considerably since the first Gengetone wave. Arbantone, Gengetone, hip-hop and Afrobeats now compete across TikTok, YouTube and streaming platforms.
For groups from the original Gengetone era, the challenge is therefore not simply making new music. It is finding a place in an industry where trends can change within months.
Angry Panda Clan's return suggests they are willing to compete again.
Whether ‘Bad Girl’ becomes another defining moment for the group or simply adds to their catalogue, its release keeps their name connected to a Kenyan genre that has proved harder to erase than many expected.
