Girls' handball action between Moi Girls Kamusinga (blue) and St Joseph's Girls' Kitale/ANGWENYI GICHANAThe Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games girls’ volleyball final will be a Kenyan affair between national champions Kesogon Mixed and St Martha’s Mwitoti.
Kesogon and Mwitoti triumphed in Friday’s semifinals played at Morogoro Teachers College in Morogoro, Tanzania.
In the first, Kesogon, the 2024 champions, saw off Uganda’s Bukedea Comprehensive School 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14).
In the second semifinal, Mwitoti sailed to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 29-27) win over Uganda’s Indangaburezi.
In girls’ handball, regional champions Moi Girls' Kamusinga were bundled out of the tournament after falling 22-17 to rivals St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale in the semis.
It was sweet revenge for the Firehawks of St Joseph’s after they lost to Kamusinga in the Kenyan national championships final in Kisumu in April. St Joseph’s Gilrs' will face Gombe Secondary in the final.
St Joseph’s coach Edwin Adamba hailed his charges for their performance, clear contrast to when they fell 40-34 Gombe their opening game.
“We are extremely great to beat the national and East Africa champions. Kamusinga is a good and tactical team but I’m happy we have beaten them,” said Adamba.
“Our team played a very good defence. The attack has areas to improve on but I’m proud of the defenders.”
He said the final will be a tough one. “We hope to play better especially our attack which was a bit slow against Kamusinga.”
Gombe came from four goals down to overcome Kenya’s Nyakach Girls 38-30 in the second semifinal.
In the girls’ basketball 3x3, St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale face Seroma Christian Secondary in the final. St Joseph’s Girls' backed by their chief principal Rosebella Orwaru, beat Msufini Secondary 13-3 while Seroma overcame Kenyan champions Ikutha Girls' 16-13.
In the boys’ category, national champions Agoro Sare, coached by Paul Odock, will face Seroma Christian School in the final.
To reach the final, Agoro Sare beat defending champions ESB Kigali 2019 in a closely-contested match while Seroma beat Kenya’s St Mary’s School Yala 20-19 in another tight semi.
In basketball 5x5, Kenya’s representatives Friends School Kamusinga suffered a 103-69 loss against ITS Kigali from Rwanda.
