Crash scene/Kenya Red CrossThe Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed an aircraft accident involving a helicopter in Samburu County.
The aircraft crashed at Lolokwe Mountain on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, while conducting a flight from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro.
KCAA said the accident occurred at approximately 9:13 am local time.
“The aircraft was conducting a flight from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro when the accident occurred at approximately 0913 hrs local time,” the Authority said in a statement.
The confirmation comes after reports that a helicopter had gone down near Kirish, close to Mt Ololokwe, with smoke and fire reported at the scene.
KCAA said it is coordinating with relevant agencies and stakeholders in response to the accident.
The Ministry of Roads and Transport’s Air Accident Investigation Department is leading investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police had earlier reported that seven tourists were on board the helicopter before it went down. Their nationalities were yet to be established.
Locals and rescue teams were reported to be moving towards the crash site.
The circumstances surrounding the accident and the condition of those on board were not immediately provided by KCAA.
The Authority said investigations would establish the circumstances surrounding the accident as relevant agencies respond to the incident.
KCAA extended its condolences to the families of those affected by the crash.
“The Authority extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims following this tragic incident,” it said.
The crash occurred at Lolokwe Mountain, an area near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County.
