Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said visitors to his Wamunyoro residence have brought hundreds of cows and thousands of goats during the political meetings he has hosted over the past 50 days.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, when he hosted a delegation from the Wiper Patriotic Front, Gachagua said he had slaughtered more than 800 cows and 3,000 goats since beginning the meetings at his Nyeri residence.
He said visitors had also brought maize, bananas, chicken and other food items, allowing him to spend less on feeding guests and household members.
Gachagua joked that the arrangement had helped him cut his spending.
"Since coming here in the last 50 days, I have slaughtered over 800 cows, over 3,000 goats. All the food eaten in this home has been brought by our visitors, including cows, goats, chicken and even money," he said.
"For the first time, I spend no money."
He said the political meetings, which were initially planned to run for 45 days, had been extended as he continued consultations with political leaders and groups.
Gachagua hosted the Wiper Patriotic Front delegation as he continues engagements with leaders from different parts of the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He said growing cooperation between Mount Kenya and other regions could have a significant impact on Kenya's political landscape.
"Coming off Mount Kenya South, to add to Mount Kenya East and West, we now have a huge solid mountain that is a serious political machine, and that will shake this country, and that will define the politics of this country," Gachagua said.
On June 9, Gachagua announced that he will withdraw from public political rallies for 45 days and instead shift focus to his Wamunyoro residence.
According to Gachagua, attention will now be on intensive consultations aimed at uniting opposition leaders behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Addressing the press a day after the High Court upheld his impeachment, Gachagua said his absence from the public stage is deliberate and strategic.
“You will not see me anywhere in political rallies for the next 45 days,” he said, adding that the period will be dedicated to structured engagements with political stakeholders across the country.
He disclosed that a 60-member caucus comprising elders, professionals, clergy and youth has been advising him on political, social and economic issues daily.
According to him, the group recently held a virtual meeting and resolved that opposition mobilisation should now shift from political rallies to structured negotiations.
“There is no need for further political mobilisation,” he said, quoting the position of his advisers. Instead, he said the focus has now shifted to identifying a single opposition presidential candidate.
