St Anthony’s Kitale and Ng’iya Girls' progressed to the hockey semi-finals on Monday at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania.
St Anthony’s, coached by Kevin Lugalia, edged Uganda’s Ntare School 1-0 to book their place in the last four. Delvin Memba scored the decisive goal for the Titans.
Kenya’s other boys’ representative, Friends School Kamusinga, will face defending champions Kakungulu Memorial of Uganda on Tuesday. They need a win to secure a semi-final place.
In the girls’ category, defending champions St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale and Nyamira Girls' maintained their 100 per cent records.
Ng’iya Girls' qualified for the semi-finals after beating Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa 2-0. They will face compatriots Nyamira Girls' in the last four.
Quinter Claris and Samantha Naliaka scored in the second half for the Rock Jaguars at Forest Hill Secondary.
Coach Oduor Nyadida said: “It was a tough game against Arusha Meru. We have qualified for the last four. We are on course to win the title, which is what brought us.”
Nyamira Girls' completed their group-stage campaign with a 1-0 win over Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial. Nakhumicha scored the all-important goal for the 2019 champions.
St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale thrashed Uganda’s St Mary’s Namagunga 6-0, with Valarie Imisa, Audrey Greener, Christine Achieng, Salome Ayoo, Shannel Osio and Cherish Kamimi finding the net.
In girls’ football, national champions St Joseph’s Kitale opened their campaign with a 5-0 victory over Tanzania’s Kilombero. Conny Ayieko scored twice, while Valentine Alivista, Mirriam Silali and Flevian Khanteje added a goal each.
Nyakach Girls' revived their campaign with a 3-0 win over Tanzania’s Mziba. Junior international Joan Agola scored twice, while Sherril Atieno completed the scoring for the Rift Valley side.
