The late Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 21, 2026.
According to the funeral arrangements released by the family, Gloria’s body will be removed from the morgue on Thursday, August 20.
Her burial service will be held at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.
Khalwale announced the death of his wife on Saturday, August 15, saying she had suddenly collapsed and died after suffering a heart attack.
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale said.
Gloria was born in 1981 and died in 2026, aged 45.
Leaders joined Kenyans in sending messages of condolences. The family has asked friends, relatives and well-wishers to join them in celebrating Gloria’s life and giving her a final send-off.
President William Ruto condoled with Kakamega Senator Khalwale. Ruto, in a message, said he and First Lady Rachel Ruto were standing with Khalwale and his family as they mourned the loss.
“Mama Rachel and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan,” Ruto said.
“We stand with Senator Khalwale and his family in this moment of immense grief.”
Ruto described the death of a spouse, companion and mother as a painful loss that leaves a deep void in a family.
“The loss of a spouse, companion and mother leaves a deep void, and we pray that God grants the family strength, comfort and peace as they mourn and cherish her memory,” the President said.
“May Gloria’s soul rest in eternal peace.”
Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Wycliffe Oparanya also extended his condolences to Khalwale and his family following Gloria's sudden passing.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Kakamega County Senator, Dr Boni Khalwale and his family following the sudden passing of his beloved wife, Mrs Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale,” Oparanya said.
“During this difficult moment, I pray that God grants them strength, comfort and courage as they come to terms with this painful loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was among those who sent a message of condolence to Khalwale, offering prayers and comfort to the family during the difficult period.
“Omwami, pole sana for your loss. May God comfort you and your family in this difficult time. Khulialala Omwami. May her soul rest in peace,” Sifuna said.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa also conveyed his condolences to the senator, describing Gloria’s death as sudden.
“I extend my sincere condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the sudden passing of his wife, Mama Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale,” Barasa said.
