Ng’iya Girls hockey coach Oduor Nyadida is optimistic the team will win their last group stage game and reach the semi-finals at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.

Ng’iya, the two-time Nyanza region champions, face Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Secondary at Forest Hill Secondary in Morogoro, Tanzania, on Monday.

The Nyanza queens have won one and lost the other of their two matches.

“We suffered a setback when we lost 1-0 against compatriots St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale. The loss is behind us as we are focused on our last group stage game,” said Nyadida.

“The girls were disappointed with how they lost the game. The game against Benjamin Mkapa is a must-win for us. It’s like a final. Our aim remains winning our first East Africa title,” said Nyadida.

St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale and Nyamira Girls' have already qualified for the semifinals and will hope to top their respective groups when they play their final group stage games on Monday.

Nyamira face Kakungulu Memorial while two-time East Africa and national champions St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale are up against Uganda’s Namagunga.

St Joseph’s Girls' Kitale coach John Lusaka said: “Namagunga is a formidable opponent but we want to finish our group stage games on a winning note.”

In the boys’ category, Friends School Kamusinga will seek their first win of the competition when they face Namilyango College from Uganda.

National champions St Anthony’s Kitale will reach the semi-finals if they beat familiar foes Ntare School from Uganda.

Defending champions Kakungulu Memorial are against Arusha Meru from Tanzania while Mbarara face Benjamin Mkapa.
