The Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement is set to build on the momentum it has gained in recent weeks by intensifying its grassroots mobilisation campaign across the country.
The movement’s leaders have indicated that they have no intention of slowing down, saying they will step up their activities and reach more constituencies as they seek to consolidate a nationwide support base.
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka said the movement wants to engage former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders in building a stronger grassroots network.
He said political leaders must leave the boardrooms and go to the ground to seek support and consolidate their bases.
“People should go to the field and work,” he said.
The Linda Mwananchi movement is in Homa Bay county, where it is holding a series of rallies on Sunday.
The confirmed itinerary includes stops in Nyandiwa, Sindo and Homa Bay Town.
Wamboka said the movement does not have the luxury of slowing down given the limited time before the 2027 polls.
“We were in Western for three days and then on the fourth day, our flagbearer went to Kitui,” he said. “He came back to Nairobi and the following day, we had a meeting.”
After the Homa Bay rallies, Wamboka said the Linda Mwananchi team will hold a series of meetings in Nairobi, targeting as many constituencies as possible, before moving to Meru county.
The Meru tour will be hosted by former Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who has aligned herself with the Linda Mwananchi movement as it expands its political activities.
Wamboka said the team would then return to Western Kenya to cover constituencies that were left out during its earlier tour of the region.
“There are five constituencies in Vihiga county where we want to hold rallies,” he said.
“There are three constituencies that were left out during the tour of Kakamega county, five in Bungoma county, two in Trans Nzoia and five in Busia.”
He said the movement expects to complete its return tour of Western Kenya within four days.
“In four days, we will be done with Western and we will not tire,” he said.
Gachagua has also urged the principals of the United Opposition to take their campaigns to the grassroots and mobilise voters, arguing that politics is ultimately a game of numbers.
He has cautioned leaders against relying solely on online declarations or political deals without establishing a strong support base on the ground.
“Leaders must sell their vision directly to Kenyans rather than rely on boardroom deals or social media posts,” Gachagua said recently.
Linda Mwananchi has in recent months expanded its mobilisation campaign across several parts of the country, with activities in Busia, Kakamega and Bungoma in Western Kenya, as well as Narok, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Machakos, Taita Taveta and the Mt Kenya region.
The movement has also stepped up its activities in the Gusii region, holding rallies in Kisii and Nyamira as it seeks to establish a broader national political base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Linda Mwananchi spokesperson Caroli Omondi said the movement would intensify its grassroots mobilisation by taking its rallies and engagements to all parts of the country.
“Our programme would see the movement visit different regions, including Mt Kenya, Western Kenya, Nyanza and other parts of the country, giving residents an opportunity to participate in our political activities and agenda,” Omondi said.
Sifuna has similarly said the movement will continue with its nationwide mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We are going to every corner of this country. We want to listen to Kenyans, understand their problems and build this movement from the ground up,” Sifuna said.
He said the campaign would involve public rallies, meetings with residents and engagements with different groups, arguing that the movement’s strength would come from ordinary citizens rather than political elites.
“Linda Mwananchi is not about a few individuals sitting in Nairobi and deciding what happens to Kenyans. It is about going to the people and allowing them to tell us what they want.”
The expanded campaign is expected to see Linda Mwananchi maintain a busy political schedule in the coming weeks as it seeks to consolidate the support it has gained and establish a presence in more constituencies before the 2027 polls.
