Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi leaders received a warm reception from residents of Nyandiwa in Homa Bay County on Sunday as the movement held a political rally in the area.

The rally brought parts of Nyandiwa to a standstill as residents turned out to welcome Sifuna and other leaders accompanying the movement.

Sifuna, among other leaders, addressed residents during the rally, thanking them for turning out and pledging to return to the area.

“We will be back, Nyandiwa. Thank you for receiving us warmly. Tunawapenda,” Sifuna said.

The rally came amid heightened tension in parts of Homa Bay, with police deploying officers to escort the Linda Mwananchi convoy as it moved through the county.

The heightened security followed reports of attempts to disrupt the movement of the convoy ahead of the planned political gatherings.

Earlier on Sunday, unknown individuals reportedly placed large stones across sections of roads leading to Homa Bay town, disrupting access to the area.

Footage recorded at about 7am showed sections of the roads blocked by stones, with political leaders and their supporters preparing for the rallies.

Tension was also reported in Ndhiwa, where police officers accompanying the convoy fired tear gas to disperse groups of youths who reportedly confronted the convoy and pelted vehicles with stones.

The confrontation briefly disrupted the movement of the convoy as officers moved to clear the way and contain the situation.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement continued with its programme in Homa Bay despite the incidents, with Sifuna and other leaders engaging residents during the rallies.
