Kenyan streamer Vindee has sparked mixed reactions online after revealing that he used to make as much as Sh400,000 from TikTok but felt the money was not improving his life.
Speaking about his experience with the platform, Vindee claimed that he could have about Sh400,000 sitting in his TikTok account while his life was not progressing. He described the money as “cursed” and said he now prefers YouTube earnings, which he considers harder-earned and more fulfilling.
“Pia Mimi nilikua naingia TikTok na naunda Doo, unapata Niko na kitu kama 400k Kwa account na maisha yangu haiendelei. Hizo pesa ni za mashetani,” Vindee said.
Giving Away Earnings and Using TikTok for Fun
He also explained that he often used TikTok gifts to support other people, rather than benefiting personally from the money.
“Hizo gift me natumiwanga TikTok naendanga nasaidia wasee, hizo pesa zinasaidia watu wengine kukiko venye zinakusaidia we mwenyewe,” he added, describing TikTok Live as a platform he mainly uses for entertainment. “TikTok me nikiíngia live ni kujibamba,” he said.
Social Media Reacts With Skepticism and Humor
His remarks generated a mixture of laughter, scepticism and debate among Mpasho followers.
One commenter simply reacted with laughing emojis, while another asked, “Mko sure uyu jamaa hatuchochi ama😂😂,” appearing to question whether Vindee was being serious.
Another user joked about withdrawing the money, writing, “M lzm niwithdraw hzo few coins😂😂 Unemplyoment imenasa tight sana,” while another said, “Sema tu YouTube ndio ikona doh.”
Some users appeared unconvinced by the reported earnings. “Mimi hiyo 400k inaeza kuwa ni dream tu,” one commenter wrote.
Debate Over TikTok Monetization and Earnings Reality
Another offered a possible explanation for the amount, saying, “Maybe from brand sponsorships and gifts. It's almost impossible for a Kenyan creator to earn such figures from the native TikTok in-stream ads monetization alone.”
Other reactions were more dismissive, with one user telling him, “acha kiburi kaka.”
A different commenter attempted to clarify the figure, writing, “Ni per year guys tulieni 😂,” suggesting that the Sh400,000 could have been earned annually rather than in a shorter period.
The discussion comes as Vindee contrasts his experience on TikTok with his current relationship with YouTube. While he maintains that TikTok provided him with substantial earnings through gifts and other income streams, he says he now enjoys YouTube money more because he considers it hard-earned.
