KPA men's team basketball players/ HANDOUTKenya Ports Authority head coach Robert Mugabe has demanded greater consistency from his players as the Dockers continue their East Africa Corporate Games campaign in Kigali, Rwanda.
KPA made a flying start to the regional competition, crushing Bank of Kigali 110-55, but Mugabe has warned his players against complacency as they prepare for their next assignment.
The coach has maintained that the Dockers must keep improving even after convincing victories, a philosophy that has helped them build an impressive campaign in the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League.
KPA had won 15 of their opening 17 league matches, losing only twice, to collect 32 points and sit second behind unbeaten Nairobi City Thunder. Their latest double saw them beat Eldonets Platinum 88-73 before routing ANU Wolfpacks 83-47.
“There has been great improvement, but we are still not where I want us to be. We still have to keep pushing ourselves and continue working to become even better,” Mugabe said after the double.
That mindset will be crucial in Kigali, where KPA will be seeking to maintain the intensity that delivered their emphatic opening victory rather than simply chasing big scorelines.
Their defence was particularly effective against Bank of Kigali, with pressure forcing turnovers that KPA converted into 32 points. Mugabe has previously identified defensive execution as an area that requires constant attention, even when his side is scoring heavily.
With their strong domestic form raising expectations, the Dockers will now be under pressure to repeat the same standards against their remaining opponents.
For Mugabe, the immediate objective is clear: sharpen their defensive execution, maintain consistency and ensure the team continues to improve as the competition progresses.
The Dockers must now prove that their 55-point victory was not a one-off statement but the beginning of a sustained challenge for honours in Kigali.
