Elephant translocations play an important role in creating safer spaces for both wildlife and communities. As the globe marks World Elephant Day today, KWS notes that moving elephants from high-conflict areas to suitable habitats protects livelihoods, promotes peaceful coexistence, and gives them room to thrive. In a statement, KWS highlights that in October 2024, it translocated 54 elephants from Mwea National Reserve to Aberdare National Park, giving these jumbos a new home while helping mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
