Action between Chepsaita (L) and Masara in the boys' volleyball competition/ANGWENYI GICHANA

Former champions Kesogon Girls and St Martha’s Mwitoti qualified for the semi-finals as the KCB Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games entered day two at MPesa Foundation Academy in Thika on Monday.

Kesogon recorded their second consecutive win after beating Soweto Academy by straight sets of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-19 to qualify for the last four.

Mwitoti, the Western region champions easily beat Wajir Girls 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-17) to also progress to the quarter finals.

Kwanthanza Girls recovered from their 3-1 loss against St  Martha’s Mwitoti in the opening game to beat Kahuro 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-16). Nyanza champions St Cecilia Aluor Girls recovered from their opening day loss against Kesogon to beatb Mwamambeyu 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17).

In the boys’ category, debutants AIC Chepsaita, Matiliku Senior School, and Western region’s Chesamis also qualified for the semi finals.

A dominant Chepsaita from Rift Valley  beat Nyanza’s Masara Mixed 3-0 (25-21, 25-8, 25-22) to maintain their 100 per cent record in the championships. In the opening game, Chepsaita defeated Kiambaa High by straight sets.

I Chesamis, on the other hand, beat Moi Forces 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21) while Matiliku also had a 3-0 (25-22, 25-25-23, 25-21) win over Rutimithu. Kiambaa revived their hopes of qualifying for the semi finals after a 3-1 win over Furaha High.

In netball, favourites Kaya Tiwi progressed to the semi finals after beating Kinale Girls 48-26. In the opening game, Kaya Tiwi thrashed Raila Education Center 77-9. Fancied Bukokholo also qualified for the semi finals after upsetting Andersen Mixed 44-43.

Asumbi Girls recovered from their opening day loss Bukokholo to beat Kibwezi 86-14. In other games, Raila Education Center thrashed Hon DM Amin 120-11.

 

In the boys’ basketball 3x3, powerhouses Laiser Hill, Agoro Sare, Upper Hill and Dagoretti recorded wins. Upper Hill defeated Takaba 21-9 while Agoro Sare saw off Kajiunduthi 21-6.

Laiser Hill narrowly defeated Pioneer 17-6 as St Mary’s School Yala beat Lodwar High 21-5.

In the girls’ category, St Joseph’s Girls launched their bid for the title with a 16-9 drubbing of Cardinal Otunga Girls while Asumbi Girls defeated Buruburu  12-9.

Coast giants Kaya Tiwi started championship on a winning note after a 21-9 win over Jog Baru as Tigoi Girls defeated Nduluni 16-6.
