POLICE have recovered a vehicle reported stolen during the demolition of clinical psychologist and researcher Victoria Nthunya Mutiso's Mlolongo property as investigations into her killing continue.
Detectives recovered a Range Rover belonging to Mutiso's husband, renowned psychiatrist Prof David Ndetei, during a search at a Karen residence linked by investigators to the family of one of the suspects in the case.
Investigators are also searching for a Toyota Prado they believe may have been used shortly before Mutiso was fatally shot in Nairobi's Upper Hill on July 29.
According to investigators, the Prado allegedly intercepted the taxi carrying Mutiso before gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire, shooting her three times.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating whether the Prado is connected to vehicles reported missing after the demolition of the family's Mlolongo property on February 12.
Detectives are also examining the circumstances surrounding the demolition, including the court orders used to carry it out.
Following the demolition, Mutiso reported alleged trespass, malicious damage to property and theft to Mlolongo police station. Police are investigating whether those events have any connection to the subsequent killing.
Investigators also say Mutiso reported to Kilimani police station on July 7 that men riding on a motorcycle had allegedly followed and threatened her while she was driving. She later began using taxis.
During a search at Rose Mbithe Mulwa's Karen residence, detectives said they recovered documents containing details of the taxi involved in the shooting. Police are investigating the significance of the documents.
Mulwa and her son, Chris Mulwa, remain in custody after prosecutors applied for more time to complete investigations. A court is expected to rule on Monday on the application seeking to detain them for a further 30 days.
A postmortem conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor found that Mutiso died from severe bleeding after sustaining three gunshot wounds, two of them to the head.
Investigators told the court they have identified a suspected gunman and a suspected motorcycle rider and are pursuing them. Detectives are also analysing CCTV footage, ballistic evidence and call data records.
The prosecution has told the court that preliminary investigations are exploring whether the killing may have been linked to a long-running land dispute involving the deceased's family.
The investigation is ongoing, and no court has determined responsibility for Mutiso's death.
