The Nakuru-based side had a weekend to forget in the SportPesa National Sevens Series season-opening Prinsloo Sevens, finishing a disappointing 10th.
Speaking on Wednesday, Oilers' Sevens coach Geoffrey Ominde believes the two will add robustness, x-factor and experience to the side as they look at moving up the log ahead of the break.
“Okoth has been training with us but we gave him a break since he was playing in India last month. He is refreshed now and ready to go this weekend, same as Mutsami, who joined us recently from Uganda. I am confident we we will see an upturn in results this weekend,” noted Ominde.
The tactician said the side have worked on kickoff reception, defence and attack after a disjointed display last weekend.
Oilers were awarded a 28-0 walkover against Impala before losing 12-7 to Blak Blad and 14-7 to cross town rivals Nakuru RFC to drop to the classification matches.
"We have done our analysis on what went wrong at Prinsloo. We have worked on our kickoff reception, our transition from defence to attack and one-on-one tackles has to be spot on,” added Ominde.
Ominde 's charges face a tricky test in Kisumu when they play Quins, Blak Blad and Mombasa Sports Club in Pool C.
"We are taking one match at a time. We have a lot to prove for this weekend. We will not underestimate any team," he added.
Despite the early struggles, Oilers finished the tournament with positively, beating NYS Spades 12-5 and Mwamba 21-19.
Ominde said they side must carry that momentum to Kisumu.
“We must start well and keep the momentum for day one and hopefully secure a place in the Main Cup quarters,” observed Ominde.
Defending champions KCB headline Pool A, where they face Masinde Muliro University, Impala and Division Two champions Zetech Oaks .
Nondies will face Daystar Falcons, Mwamba and hosts in Pool C while Kabras will be hoping to go one place better when they take on Nakuru, Strathmore Leos and Embu RFC in Pool D.
