KCB coach Andrew Amonde praised his players' resilience and the impact of his bench after the Bankers held off Kabras Sugar 19-12 to win the Prinsloo Sevens title at Nakuru Athletic Club.
Amonde said his side showed composure under pressure in a high-quality final that saw Kabras push hard for a late comeback.
"This was a tough final against a quality opponent who pushed us hard. I'm delighted with the performance. The quality of our bench was vital, especially when Kabras were creating opportunities in the second half," said Amonde.
The former Kenya Sevens captain believes the competition will only get tougher when the National Sevens Circuit moves to Kisumu for the Dala Sevens next weekend.
Kabras struck first when Mike Lukusi collected the kick-off, outpaced the KCB defence and dotted down for an unconverted try to hand the Sugarmen a 5-0 lead.
KCB responded immediately through George Ooro, with Brian Wahinya converting for a 7-5 advantage. Skipper Elvis Olukusi then barged over to extend the lead to 12-5 before Vincent Onyala intercepted a pass and raced away for KCB's third try. Wahinya added the extras as the Bankers took a comfortable 19-5 lead into the break.
Kabras came out strongly in the second half, with Brian Mutua slicing through the defence to score and reduce the deficit to 19-12 after the conversion.
The Sugarmen piled on relentless pressure in the closing stages as they searched for the equalising try that would have forced extra time, but KCB's defence stood firm to secure the title.
Earlier, KCB defeated Kenya Harlequin 24-12 in the semi-finals, while Kabras edged Nondescripts 14-10 to reach their first Prinsloo Sevens final in Nakuru since 2023.
In Division One, Mwamba Ladies successfully defended their title with a 19-0 victory over Kiambaa Ladies to earn Sh100,000.
Zetech Oaks claimed the men's Division One crown after a commanding 46-0 win over Kabarak University, pocketing Sh70,000.
The National Sevens Circuit now shifts to Kisumu for the Dala Sevens at Mamboleo Showground on August 1-2.
