Kenyan comedian and filmmaker Eddie Butitahas shared the story of the first mansion he ever stepped into, revealing that it was the family home of award-winning singer Nikita Kering during one of her childhood birthday celebrations.
Speaking in an interview with Tony Mwirigi on the Over 1M Podcast, Butita reflected on his early years as an upcoming comedian, when he and fellow entertainers accepted any opportunity to perform as they worked to build their careers.
Nikita was still a young girl at the time, around 11 or 12 years old, although he admitted he could not remember her exact age. She had already begun singing and was well known for her talent.
“The first mansion I ever entered was at Nikita Kering’s home. It was during Nikita’s birthday. I think she was turning 11 or 12 years old; I’m not sure, but she was still a child. She used to sing.”

Butita explained that the opportunity came through relationships within the entertainment industry. He said Nikita, who was already recognised as a gifted singer, was close to gospel musician Emmy Kosgei.
At the time, content creator Milly Chebby was working with Emmy Kosgei. Because Chebby and Nikita’s mother was a family friend, she suggested inviting a group of young comedians to entertain guests during the birthday celebration.
“Since she was a good singer, she was a good friend of Emmy Kosgei. At that time, Milly Chebby was working with Emmy Kosgei. Milly Chebby and Nikita’s mother were family friends. We were upcoming comedians, and Chebby suggested that we should go and entertain the guests.”
Butita said he immediately agreed to the opportunity, seeing it as another chance to perform and gain experience.
Travelling to the birthday with fellow comedians
The comedian recalled travelling to the event alongside fellow comedian DJ Shiti and other performers. A bus picked them up from the Carnivore area in Nairobi before taking them to the birthday venue.
It was upon arriving at the home that Butita experienced what he described as his first encounter with a luxurious mansion.
“YY, DJ Shiti and the others boarded a bus that picked us up around the Carnivore area. We were taken to Nikita’s birthday. The moment I entered that home compound, I started feeling cold.”
Although he made the remark jokingly, Butita used it to illustrate just how impressed he was by the size and elegance of the property.
Butitasaid the group entertained guests continuously from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., giving the birthday celebration several hours of comedy and entertainment.
