A 30-year-old man drowned while swimming in Gachomo Dam in Juja Subcounty, Kiambu county.
The incident was reported after the public alerted authorities that a man had disappeared beneath the water.
Police officers visited the scene and found that members of the public had already retrieved the body.
The deceased was identified by his brother as Peter Mwaura, 30.
According to witnesses, Mwaura had entered the dam using a bamboo pipe to aid his swimming before he was overwhelmed by strong water currents and drowned on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the body bore no visible physical injuries.
The scene was documented before the body was moved to the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary, where it will be preserved pending a postmortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Kangemi, Nairobi, have launched investigations following the sudden death of a woman who was found lifeless inside her house on Saturday evening.
The incident was reported after the woman’s boyfriend returned home from work and discovered her unresponsive.
The man had left the house at around 5:30 am for work in Westlands, leaving his girlfriend, identified as Joyce Chepkorir, at home.
When he returned at about 6:40 p.m., he knocked on the door but received no response.
He then looked through a window and saw Joyce lying motionless on the floor before alerting the police.
Officers visited the scene and found the body of Joyce Chepkorir lying on the floor inside the house. Police said there were no visible injuries on the body.
Scenes of Crime personnel from Dagoretti processed the scene before the body was moved to the City Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere, police in Kilifi county have launched investigations after decomposed human remains were discovered along the shores of the Indian Ocean at Sultan Palace Beach.
The discovery was reported to Kijipwa Police Station on Saturday.
Police officers visited the scene and found heavily decomposed human remains consisting of a skull, thorax and pelvic bones.
According to police, the remains had decomposed to the extent that it was impossible to determine the person’s race or identity.
The scene was documented before the remains were collected and taken to the Kilifi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where they will be preserved pending identification and a postmortem examination.
Investigators suspect the deceased may have drowned elsewhere, with ocean currents later washing the remains ashore at Sultan Palace Beach.
Police noted that no recent missing person reports matching the discovery had been recorded within the sub-county.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
